Rodeo Girls on A&E
Rodeo Girls on A&E

I was watching Duck Dynasty on A&E the other day and saw the commercial for Rodeo Girls.  I’ll have to be honest in that it was the pretty girls that got my attention, but it wasn’t until they mentioned a tiny little town called Red Bluff that really got my attention.  I instantly added Rodeo Girls to my DVR so I could check them out.

Today I took time to watch the first three episodes, primarily with the idea of watching the Red Bluff episodes.  The reason I’m so interested in Red Bluff is that it’s not only home to the one of the best rodeos ever, the Red Bluff Round Up, a few of my ex-girlfriends, but it’s also just 30 min from where I grew up and I knew I’d see a bunch of stuff I knew.  I’ve had a lot of good times in Red Bluff.

If you don’t know much about Rodeo Girls, it’s a show about 5 women barrel racers that are riding in pro rodeo series.  Rodeo Girls chronicles the lives of Darcy, Marvel, Barb, Jessica, and Megan as they travel from rodeo to rodeo.  If you’re interested in rodeo or learning more about barrel racing, then I think you’ll enjoy the show.  If you’re also interested in watching some pretty girls ride around on horses you’ll also like this show.  Where I think the show is a little off is that there seems to be some manufactured drama, such as some drama that gets built up when both Darcy and Jessica both date the same guy, Anthony.  There’s also some weird focus on Marvel’s “crazy ex” from Red Bluff that she’s all worried about but nothing seems to materialize from.

It was fun to watch the episodes in Red Bluff, which included things like The Bikini Race and The Wild Girl Race.  It was also cool to see scenes that included Mt Lassen, the Sacramento River and one of the best country bars in Northern California, The O.K. Corral in Cottonwood, CA.

Right now I’d give the show about 3 out of 5 stars and will probably watch a few more episodes of it
