Review of Betas on Amazon Instant Video | Silicon Valley Life

Yesterday I fired up my PS3 to see if I could find a video game that my daughter wanted to play and in the process saw the advertisement for the new Amazon Instant Video original show Betas.  Seeing that it was about a group of computer geeks in the San Francisco/Silicon Valley area that are trying to be the next big thing I instantly had to check it out.

What I like about Betas are their references to some of the geeky things that only those of us that live in the valley would appreciate.  For example, in one of the episodes they have an ode to the Kixeye video that went geek viral a while back.  They also have  shown places like 21st Amendment and services like Lyft that many of us go to and use.  There was also a good cameo by Moby.

The characters in the show are quite humorous and they do throw in many of the stereotypes that you see here in the Silicon Valley.  There is some good humor in the show and the show keeps you interested by throwing some outrageous scenes in there that keep you wondering what they’re going to do next.

As with many “Hollywood” shows and movies they do try to glamorize software coding, which really just can’t be glamorized.  There are some scenes in the show that leave you thinking, “really?”  But after watching the first 3 episodes I am interested in watching the rest of season 1.

If you don’t have Amazon Prime, you can get 30 days for free by going to http://amazon.com/betas.
