Preparing for Hunting | Creating Lists | Redneck Vacations

hunting hornsIt’s hunting time and I’m scrambling to get everything together for our annual deer hunting trip in Montana.  While we have been trying to simplify our trip each year, I still find it amazing how much stuff we have to take and do to get ready.

First, I have to get a list together of all the clothes that I need for hunting.  My hunting boots, my snow boots, my light weather boots, hunting socks, thermal underwear, regular underwear, Under Armor cold gear, hunting jackets, down jackets, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and everything else.  The problem is that at this time of year you never know what the weather is going to be like.  It can be 50 degrees and sunny or it could be zero degrees and snowing.  Now I know how a woman feels when she’s trying to pack shoes for a vacation.

In addition to clothes for hunting, you also need to make a list of all the peripheral items that you need, such as your gun, ammo, binoculars. rope, flashlights, canteen, survival pack, various hunting knives, back pack, and all the other hunting gear you need.  Then when you add in the Polaris RAZR and 4 wheeler that we take, you get into all the things you need to support those.  All this stuff really starts to add up!

An app that has really helped me keep my lists in order is Evernote, which I have written about before.  Because they store the lists for me in the cloud, I can retrieve the lists that I used in previous years, copy them, and then modify them for this year!
