When you’re out hunting or camping, or both at the same time like I do, it’s critical that you have a light source with you that allows you to do things at night. These can be simple things like going to the restroom to more in depth things like gutting a deer or assembling a tent. Regardless of what you’re doing, it’s usually helpful to have a light source that you don’t have to hold in your hands, this is where headlamps like the Petzl headlamp comes in handy.

In the 20+ years of hunting and camping that I’ve done, I haven’t found a better headlamp than the Petzl headlamp when it comes to comfort and reliability. The model that I use has a very sleek and simple design. It has one button that is easy to push, with or without gloves to turn on the light. The sleek design makes it easy to wear directly on my head, or to wear with a baseball cap or stalking cap. There’s even a red lens that I can flip up if I need dimmer light or if I’m working around horses and such.

The Petzl headlamp runs off of 3 AAA batteries and has great battery life. Fresh batteries will last me through the entire week of hunting and camping with significant usage and often many times after that. Outside of using the Petzl headlamp for hunting and camping, they are also great to have around the house for when you have to work in dark spots like under the sink or working on a car engine. I’ve used many of the other headlamps with more options and such, but I always end up coming back to using Petzl.
