Blue Shield of CA Unclaimed Property
Did you receive a notice from the State of California or anyone else that says that you have unclaimed property from Blue Shield of CA? Are you finding it frustrating because the number they gave you leads to a fax number and there’s no actual phone number to call? If so, you’re lucky that you found this post, because I have answers for you, including the right number to call.
First off, I won’t keep you in suspense. The right number to call the Blue Shield of CA Unclaimed Property division in Lodi, CA is (209)371-3080. Unfortunately, that’s not going to get you very far. All it leads to is a voicemail that is somewhat garbled and tells you that you need to send in documentation to unclaimedproperty@blueshieldca.com, yet it doesn’t explain what documentation to actually send in.
I was able to get a hold of a nice representative at Blue Shield of CA and she did a little digging for me and basically the ONLY WAY to really claim your property is to email them at the address above. Her recommendation was to send in all the information on the letter, or even a scanned copy of the letter, to the email address and someone will get back to you…eventually.
I know, frustrating, right?! I just sent my email in and I’ll update this post once I go through the process and finally claim my property
Thanks so much! Can’t tell you how helpful this was.
Thank you. Your info above was very helpful. Can you please verify what email address you referred to above to send info to.
Did you ever receive your check? I’m just getting started, been waiting 10 weeks.
Thanks for this post, Smitty. How long did it take for you to get your money? They said 6-8 weeks and it has been over 2 months. Also, on the letter it says they if they do not hear from me in 60 days (this has passed now), the money will turn over to the state. It’s frustrating that they do not send back a personalized “we received your claim”. Just a canned response. I’m dreading hearing back one day: oh, we didn’t hear from you so you need to claim it from State Treasury now…
Thank you for reaching out to the Unclaimed Property Mailbox at Blue Shield of California. Below is the canned response. I provide the necessary reply twice with no response…
This message is to confirm that we have received your email and to provide information.
IF YOU RECEIVED A LETTER REGARDING UNCLAIMED PROPERTY (from either our department or the CA State Controller’s Office), AND…
The name/address information on the notice is correct, please do the following to collect:
1. Provide a copy of the notice you received (clear photo or scan of the document).
2. Please indicate in the email body that you are seeking to have the check(s) reissued.
3. (For notices from the CA State Controller’s Office only) If the mailing name/address and reported name/address are different, please indicate which address is correct.
That’s it! You may submit that via email to this address or mail it to the address listed on your notice.
The name/address information on the notice has changed, (or you are collecting on behalf of someone else) please do the following to collect:
Provide a copy of the notice you received (clear photo or scan of the document).
Clearly indicate in the body of the email what change has occurred, and/or the circumstances under which you are collecting for someone else.
Provide the following additional information to support your claim to this property (check).
NAME CHANGE: Please provide a copy of a legal document supporting the name change (marriage certificate, photo ID with both names, etc.)
ADDRESS CHANGE: Please provide a copy of a photo ID and copies of any additional documents supporting this address as one at which you currently receive mail (utility bill or other mailed billing statement).
CLAIMING FOR ANOTHER PERSON: Please provide copies of all relevant documents establishing your legal authority to claim the payment on behalf of the property owner (death certificate + will, conservatorship, power of attorney, etc.)
In most cases, providing the above will be enough. However, if we need any further information or documents, we will reach out to you as soon as we can.
WHEN TO EXPECT YOUR CHECK
During the months from March – July, we are handling an exceptionally high volume of check requests, but it is our intention to get your check out to you on the next monthly check run after we process it for payment. For this reason, expect a turnaround time of 6-8 weeks.
why do you make so difficult to get our money returned pbone number that does not help us appears that BLUE SHEILD WANTS TO GIVE THE MONEY TO THE STATE With NO CONSIDERATIION TO THE RIGHTFULL OWNER.bluesheild does not want to do the due dalliance to send to money
unclaimed property blue shield should be investigated I received since 2022 about 30 notices from the Ca state controllers office to notify blue shield to claim your property and so far no response I have mailed with tracking and emailed with no response from Blue Shield and their phone no I am sure intentionally no message can be left
Someone please post back here if you have received any money.
1. How long did it take?
2. Did you get it from BS or from the State?
I have scanned my letter and sent it to unclaimedproperty@blueshieldca.com twice and only a canned email response. It has been 8 months. I checked the State of CA website and there’s only $0.01 owed to me by Google. Nothing from BS.
Very helpful information. Glad I found you
